BOARD OF DIRECTORS

President
Colleen Mason
About: I am a mom of two boys – one graduate of Treehouse and one still attending. We moved to the valley almost 5 years ago to make the mountains our home.
How long have you been with the board: 3 years
Why did you join the board? I wanted to find out more about how the daycare operated, and how I could contribute to keeping the daycare successfully running for other working families like ours. I believe the daycare is like our extended family, and want to support the staff in helping our children grow and develop.

Vice President
Rianne Spaans
About: I moved to the Elk Valley 4 years ago to get away from big city life, to be closer to friends and family, and to find a safe and supportive community to raise our young children.
How long have you been with the board: I just joined this year and I look forward to learning more about how the board and daycare operate.
Why did you join the board? I have a great passion for supporting children and their families and I strongly believe that quality daycare plays a crucial role in this.

Treasurer
Wendy Wittfoth
About: I have been married to my wonderful husband for 28 years and am a mother of two grown children. I have been providing the wonderful people of this town fresh baked products at Save on Foods for the past 15 years!
How long have you been with the board: 3 years
Why did you join the board? I joined the Treehouse board 3 years ago as a way to give back to our community. I love being a board member because I’m helping to provide much needed qualified daycare to the children and relieving some of the stress from working parents.

Secretary
Tammy Ogden
About: Hi Everyone! I have been part of the daycare board of directors for the past 13 years holding various positions on the board during that time.
How many years have you been with the board: 13
Why did you join the board? Childcare contributes to the local economy by supporting parents and local employers. Equally important is the crucial value a high-quality daycare provides to children; it helps children develop skills they will need for success in school and in their lives outside of school. Recognizing the importance of supporting children, families, and the community, it was important to me to join the board.

How long have you been with the board: 6 years
Why did you join the board? I joined the board because I heard the board was looking for people outside the daycare and helping our community (especially the littles) is amazing.

About: I moved to the Elk Valley 7 years ago to work and enjoy the outdoor lifestyle and now reside in Sparwood with my husband, our dog and our daughter.
How long have you been with the board: I joined the board at the end of 2023.
Why did you join the board? Finding childcare in the Elk Valley seems to be increasingly difficult for young families. Having just started my own family I wanted to get involved and see how I could be of help to the community.

About: I was born and raised in the Elk Valley (Hosmer) and returned in 2019 after close to a decade of studying and working in education around Alberta and BC. I now run my own private education support business, primarily working with parents and students in the Elk Valley. I also started a door-to-door delivery business with my mom in 2021, and now our team handles the majority of the Amazon deliveries for the Elk Valley. I spend most of my free time with my fiance, his guide dog Columbo, and our two bunnies, Coconut and Lemondrop.
How long have you been with the board: I am new to the Treehouse board and am excited to mesh my previous leadership and volunteer experience with learning how to help operate an NFP.
Why did you join the board? I believe in supporting our communities and the working-class people who built them. I believe we should strive to ensure that the basic housing, food, and childcare needs of our community are met so that those people can focus on the enjoyment and development of our community. As such, I want to do what I can to support the Society for Kids’ Care, as it strives to provide childcare at the lowest possible cost to parents.
